30 Days of Handwritten Verse, day 30.
We humans tend to have dueling drives. Most of us want to fit in, yet we also want to stand out.
One is a desire for safety, a belief that being part of the herd will make us less vulnerable. The other is a basic need we all have to matter — not to blend in, but to be noticed and valued as individuals.
Sometimes the desire to conform runs head-on into the desire to be special. And sometimes we hold the surreal belief that trying to be exactly like everyone else should garner us special recognition.
